Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) allows authors to sell print-on-demand or digital books in the Kindle store and as an eBook. They also have their ACX platform (Audiobook Creation Exchange) so you can turn your book into an audiobook and distribute it on Audible and iTunes.

These can include:

• Journals
• Children’s Books
• Recipe Books
• Poetry
• Comics
• Textbooks
• Book Series

All said and done, you can write - or have a ghostwriter create - 1 book that can be:

• Sold in print or as an eBook
• Translated into other languages
• Turned into an audiobook

If you don’t have an audience, don’t worry. You can market it with Amazon PPC ads and enroll in KDP Select, which pushes your book out through Kindle Unlimited and offers additional promo opportunities.

Because it’s self-published, you retain your rights to the book, and earn up to 70% royalties depending on the format. Compare that to a maximum of 25% on ebook sales with traditional publishers, and you can see why this space has exploded.

If you’re not an author, but love books and the idea of owning a business that requires minimal effort to maintain, then you could look at buying an Amazon KDP business. These typically include a portfolio of books, with most of the income coming from a small number of top performers.
